Preparedness is about being ready and capable — mentally and practically — for situations that may arise. It's not paranoia; it's responsibility. A prepared person is calmer, faster and more useful when something happens. And perhaps just as importantly: knowing you are prepared gives peace of mind — you worry less, because you know you can handle what comes.
Prepared · Ready · ProactiveResilience is the ability to activate the preparedness you have built up when a crisis occurs — and use it to contribute and resolve the situation. For yourself, for your family, for your neighbours and for the community around you. Knowing what to do is not enough; you have to have trained on it.
Toughness · Action · ContributionSurvival is the next level — when the situation is so severe that you are out in the open with very limited means. A refugee situation. An accident in the wilderness. A shipwreck. Here it's about getting through with what you have and what you know — without a safety net.
Primitive mastery · Endurance · WillCivil defence is about protecting the society we live in — from the inside. The civilian contribution is just as important as the military. A population that is prepared, resilient and united is in itself a defence.
Civic responsibility · Community · DefenceI am Hans Johnny — course instructor, outdoorsman and survival enthusiast based in Eastern Norway. Through many years of outdoor activity, defence-related work and practical field experience, I have built up knowledge about what actually works when things don't go to plan.
My courses are built on experience from forests, mountains and the field — as well as experience from the Armed Forces and as an active member of Norsk Reservistforbund (the Norwegian Reserve Officers' Association). Combined with a genuine interest in giving others the skills that can make a real difference. Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast, a parent or simply someone who wants to be better prepared — you'll find courses here tailored to your needs and level.
Theory and demonstration of fundamental survival principles. You get an introduction to what actually matters — mental priorities, shelter, heat, water and signalling. There is not much individual practice, but you get a solid introduction to the subject matter and concrete tips on what to train on your own.
Theory and hands-on practice. You get to try things yourself — fire, shelter, water, navigation — under guidance in the field. Practical execution and repeated practice takes time, so topics may be split across several sessions on different days.
Deep dive into one specific topic. Combines theory with practical exercises outdoors, with the aim of building solid competence within one concrete survival discipline. Examples: firewood and fire-lighting, building emergency bivouacs, navigation (day/night), signalling, and more.
Traditional field skills with knife, axe and primitive technology. Learn to craft your own tools from natural materials — implements, rope and equipment that can make a difference in a survival situation, or simply be fun to master on a camping trip with the kids.
What do you do when GPS stops working, the weather turns and you are alone? This is the complete walkthrough: we learn and practise the most essential survival skills, and put it all to the test by spending a night alone in our own emergency bivouac.
Everyday and home preparedness in practice. What you should have, what you should know, and how to plan for the unexpected. We cover the 72-hour principle — water, food, heat, communication and first aid — adapted to your household. A walkthrough that makes you, your family and local community safer, without having to cost much.
The ability to think clearly and act effectively under stress is the most important tool you have. This course gives you concrete methods for stress management, decision-making under pressure and mental preparation for the unexpected — skills that are just as useful in everyday life as in a crisis.
What does civil defence mean for you as a citizen? We go through the civilian preparedness apparatus, your role in it, and how individuals and local communities contribute to protecting the society we live in. Knowledge that gives perspective and readiness to act.

Set up emergency shelter with minimal equipment. Assess terrain and weather for optimal position.
Map, compass and terrain reading. Orientation without GPS in all light conditions.
Decision-making under stress. Staying calm, thinking clearly and acting effectively — the most important tool you have.

Damage limitation, improvised bandaging and prioritisation in an emergency far from help.
The 72-hour principle, essential supplies and communication plans for you and your household.
Your role as a citizen. The civil defence's tasks, warning systems and what you can actually contribute.
